The death of菲利普王子, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the age of 99 is a sad and important moment for the UK, and the senior Royal's passing has attracted tributes from across the world.
The duke's death was announced at midday today by Buckingham Palace.
A statement read: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
"Further announcements will made in due course.
"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."
At present it has not been confirmed when the final, withGuildford's Mike Tomkins, Tom Rhodes and Alexina Anatole in the running to win, will be shown.
Meanwhile Channel 4's schedule has been cleared for 90 minutes tonight for a news special about Prince Philip - however, The Circle's final is still listed to be screened at 10pm according to the broadcaster's latest listings.
He officially retired from public engagements in the summer of 2017.
Philip had returned to Windsor Castle on March 16 to be reunited with the Queen after spending a month in hospital – his longest ever stay.
The Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the duke 'inspired the lives of countless young people'.
